Contouring has been quite the buzzword in the beauty industry as of late. Rising in popularity back in 2016 due to celebs and makeup artists swearing by the bone structuring enhancing method, contouring is a great way to make the most of your features.
The makeup used to achieve contouring can often be a little heavy, which isn’t ideal for every day use. Contouring can be updated for spring summer ’17 though, by taking a lighter approach to create a look that’s perfect for a warm summers’ day.
Read on to find out how to create the perfect contoured look for spring/summer 2017…
The ultimate look to create for summer is a healthy glow. Heavy makeup and full coverage foundations should be avoided, but when contouring involves layering up how do you create a minimal contoured look?
The trick is not going over the top with your base, and using lots of highlighter, rather than lots of dark bronzer.
Use a primer to create a flawless base, to keep your makeup even all day. A brightening and pore minimising primer works best for this look. Next use a tinted moisturiser to add a soft glow to your face and create an even base without applying a heavy foundation. Cover dark circles, pigmentation and blemishes with a light concealer and ensure you blend well.
Your contouring should be applied after your base is complete. For a natural finish opt for a cream to powder contour cream. You will need a darker colour that’s a similar shade to your usual bronzer and a highlighter.
First apply the dark shade. Avoid applying too heavily to keep your look natural. Apply down the sides of your nose, either side of your chin, in the hollow of your cheekbones and along your jaw line. Blend using a flat head brush. Make sure you blend down your neck too.
Next apply your highlighter. Opt for a cream highlighter with a little shimmer to it. Pat down your check bones, down the middle of your nose, in the centre of your chin, on top of your cupids bow and in the centre of your forehead.
Now that your contoured base is complete, it’s time to add a few finishing touches. Dust a little powder over your face to set your base. Next use a brow gel to set your brows and fill in any gaps. For a natural day time look pat a little nude pink lipstick in the middle of your lips and blend out to the edges. Use a lip liner for a more defined look.
To brighten your eyes use a powdered highlighter on your brow bone and in the corner of your eyes, curl your lashes and apply a few sweeps of mascara.
