A recent viral e-mail from an employee to her boss, and his reply, about taking
a sick day off just to mentally recover are getting people talking. The idea
of taking a sick day off work just to mentally refresh is not a common one.
But the idea struck a chord with the CEO of the company. He praised the idea
and thought it should be a more common practice. Taking a day or two to relax
and recover from work is just as important as recovering from a cold.
- Mental Health sick days should be included in taking time off.
- There should not be a stigma surrounding mental health sick day
- Employers should support employees using sick days for mental health
“Taking care of your mental health is super-important, and sometimes that means taking time off from work to focus on feeling better. Calling in sick to tend to your mental health should be just as common as resting to recover from a cold or the flu”
